Advent and
Christmas
Advent is the
name for the Season that begins a new church year. From a Latin word meaning
“coming,” Advent’s four Sundays seek to prepare us to welcome Jesus as our
Savior. Christians believe that God entered our space and time in the person of
Jesus, whose birth in Bethlehem we celebrate at Christmas. Christians also
believe that this same Jesus died for the sins of all humanity, rose again, and
will return at the end of time to declare his lordship over all
things.
The Season of
Advent and the Christian celebration of Christmas have nothing to do with the
commercialization that is so much a part of our culture. Instead of focusing upon things, we focus
upon God’s gift to all humanity in Jesus who came to save us from our sins.
Having received the Gift of God’s own Son, we are empowered to share the love,
hope, peace and forgiveness that God first gave us.
You are
welcome to join us for our Wednesday evening Advent Vesper Services beginning December 2nd at 7:00 pm preceded by Soup and Bread Suppers. Our
